I've been a beauty editor for eleven years and I thought I'd seen everything. The gua sha tools. The glass skin routines. The serum layering guides that read like chemistry homework. I've tested them all, written about most of them, and quietly moved on from more than I can count.
But there's one thing that never made it into any of those articles — and I'm a little embarrassed to admit it. While I was meticulously applying SPF and vitamin C and retinol to my face every single morning, I was completely, utterly ignoring my neck.
If you've ever looked in the mirror and noticed that your neck seems to be telling a different story from your face — the soft horizontal lines that weren't there last summer, the slight laxity where your jawline meets your throat, the way a low neckline now makes you reach for a scarf — then you already know what I mean. Your face looks fine. Your neck gives you away. And no amount of face serum is going to fix that, because the skin on your neck is a fundamentally different thing.
